Arms Scam: Army Sends 12 Names Of Officers To EFCC For Investigation

The Nigerian Army has send 12 of its officers suspected to have benefited from the massive diversion and embezzlement of $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase in the last administration.

According to a statement issued by acting Director Army Public Relations colonel, Sani Kukasheka Usman, the army did not disclosed the names of the officers but stated that 3 serving Major Generals, and one retired, 3 Brigadier Generals, 4 Colonels and 1 Lieutenant Colonel have been produced for prosecution by the EFCC.

The statement reads in part: “The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public that 12 Army officers have been sent to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), for investigation. This comprised of 3 serving Major Generals, and one retired, 3 Brigadier Generals, 4 Colonels and 1 Lieutenant Colonel.

Col. Usman also assured that the army would further prosecute those found guilty of the crimes in a special military court martial according to the military code and rules.

“However, it should be noted that at the end of the Commission’s investigations those found culpable will be tried by a military Court Martial.

It would be recalled that Senior, retired and serving military officers are under investigation by the anti-graft for allegedly purchasing weapons that are substandard and nonfunctional.
